SomeAwesome is returning to its community-first roots. We are making a thoughtful change to how points, content, and rewards work so we can focus our energy on the people and experiences that make this community special.
Redeeming Points for Steam Keys will retire on October 31, 2026
On October 31, 2026, we will retire the capability to spend your points on Steam keys, and we have already disabled creating new Game Reviews. We know many of you have put time, care, and personality into those reviews, and we are grateful for every contribution. This is not a goodbye to the point system, and it is not a goodbye to community-created content. It is a change in how we approach our limited time and resources.
Bottom-line is, between the ease of producing AI-generated content, game key expirations retroactively added to Humble Bundle, and the simple bandwidth required to review, manage, and support the current model responsibly, the review-for-points system no longer fits the immediate goals for SomeAwesome right now.
Points are staying...and getting a new purpose
Points will continue to be part of SomeAwesome. Users will still be able to earn points in other ways, and we will put those points toward rewards and experiences that strengthen the community, including:
- Cosmetic profile customizations that help you make your profile your own.
- Comments on nodes where comments are enabled, so points can help support thoughtful participation.
- Merch and other SomeAwesome physical rewards.
- In-game items and commands, including resurrecting the AquaNu Minecraft server and the Serverus Shack.
- Raffles and giveaways for games, gear, and other community prizes.
Getting back to our roots
We may revisit the game review mechanism down the road if we find a sustainable way to make it work. For now, though, we are going back to what SomeAwesome was built to be: a community-led and community-centered place for events, multiplayer game servers for popular games on Steam, and useful updates about the Steam ecosystem.
That means keeping you up to date on game releases, major sales, quality-of-life improvements (plus the other changes worth knowing about) and creating more opportunities for people to play, meet, and participate in a safe, secure, social gaming universe.

As a thank-you to everyone who has contributed over the years, all authors can now redeem one game every 24 hours, regardless of how many games they have already redeemed. This offer will remain available through October 31, 2026, or until your points run out.
