RiME

Going through a process

RiME is an 3d adventure puzzle game developed by Tequila Works, although it seems to be inspired by classics like Ico, Journey or Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons —and it may well be— we find ourselves with a game that’s quite unique in its narrative. We explore a strange place where we’ve washed ashore and discover that this story isn’t what it seems.

After a commotion, we woke up on a coast

What is it about?

Right from the start, our protagonist—a young boy—wakes up on the shore of an island, but it’s not a deserted one—or at least it wasn’t, since you can see a tower and other buildings. Throughout the adventure, we won’t be alone; we’ll have a small companion, a little fox, to help us on our journey, and the further we go, the more we’ll understand the nature of the adventure and the experience we’re going through. Throughout the adventure, we'll have visions that help us understand the situation, we'll find ourselves in new places, and we'll climb a tower littered with impactful moments
One of the game’s strengths is that, despite the lack of signs or dialogue, the world is well-designed so you won’t get lost. The open-world format allows you to explore, discover secrets, and observe the world around you, as each area represents a different stage.

This vast island isn't the only place we'll visit

Gameplay

As in any exploration game, we can jump, crouch, and interact with objects, with the added feature of using our voice to interact with certain objects. Simple and straightforward. These actions will also be used to solve the game’s puzzles, which aren’t really that complex—most of them are very easy to solve. On the other hand, there are additional collectibles—such as toys, melodies, and memories—that require us to explore the areas. Most can be found with careful observation, but some involve logic that isn’t very intuitive. In addition, the worlds we visit won't always be empty, as both friends and foes will be there to add a layer of depth to the game.

Is it Recommended?

Yes, RiME is a great adventure, so to speak; it tells a moving story without saying a word, exploring has its rewards when it comes to delving deeper into the character and it's just the right length. You can finish it in 5 hours, and if you want to achieve 100% completion, the game has some additional challenges to complete.

An open but almost empty world to explore with the basics mechanics.

A magnificent and meaningful artistic design.

Plays a major role in the story .
