Chroma Squad is a tactical RPG game with clear references to those series of the past, such as the Power Rangers, but this is not its only feature, as we will have to manage a studio and robot fights. Will they achieve success with their show?
Road to fame
In Chroma Squad, we don't have a story per se, but rather a show. A group of rogue actors (stunt actors btw) form their own studio to create the most successful sentai series. To do this, we will have to manage it, make our costumes—using cardboard, tape, wood, etc.—hire sponsors, read letters from our fans, and, of course, produce episodes. The journey spans five seasons, and you can even make decisions to have a different ending!
Tactical and more!
Chroma Squad is mainly a tactical RPG game, and as such, it is quite entertaining. Since the premise is a show, we can perform maneuvers and combined attacks. As a bonus, we have the director's instructions, which are extra requirements per level, to gain extra audience and money - both being currency.
Customization: Another strong point of the game is that everything from the players—each of whom has their own statistics—to the publishers can be chosen to suit your playing style.
Boss battles: There are many! some may feel very hard (in high difficulty), but all are doable and satisfying to beat.
Mecha-battles: A mechanic that was overused despite being very simple, to fight, you have an indicator that you must hit in order to strike.
Although most things are fine, the game has some minor issues, such as not being able to speed up the enemies' turn or undo our actions.
Recommendation
Chroma Squad is surprisingly good, despite its minor flaws. Its humor and difficulty are just right for getting into the genre. The game will take you about 10 hours to complete and getting 100% will take longer.
