Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection

A Delightful Action RPG Experience

Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection

If you like action RPGs that are funny, have smart fighting, and tell a good story, Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection is fun.. Here's my take on it, split into bits and rated out of 10:

Gameplay & Combat – 8/10
What makes Zwei cool is how smooth the fighting is. Switching between characters feels natural. You've got Ragna, who's all about getting up close, and Alwen, who likes to shoot from far away. That mix keeps things interesting. I dug how you had to think about enemy weaknesses during boss fights. Being able to switch characters fast is great, and since they share health, it all flows well. The camera's stuck in one spot sometimes, which made dodging in boss fights a pain, but no biggie.

Leveling & Progression – 9/10
The leveling system based on food consumption is among the most creative parts of the game. It is a smart innovation that effectively blends character growth with resource management. Experiencing through foods makes players make strategic decisions—do you keep items for healing or use them for faster leveling? This trick creates tension and proves skillful play. The difficulty of the game is well-scaled, and the bosses are such a pleasure to challenge, especially when you are trying to strike a balance between EXP farming and survival.

Story & Atmosphere – 7/10
The narrative is light-hearted and contains some humor, it was difficult to determine where it fell in the spectrum of seriousness and silliness, still, I found it quite delightful. Their lines are full of wittiness and the cast are strange but unforgettable. The game has nods to Zwei: The Arges, with characters you might know. You don't have to play that before playing this one. Still, it would help you understand more when they reference about things in the previous title. The setting is created thoroughly and the NPCs who change their interaction with the players after the major plot points give out a nice depth.

Graphics & Sound – 7/10
The graphics are adorable and bright, rendered in a 3D style which is not taxing in terms of graphics but has a huge amount of character. The overall environment is done quite nicely and the characters are animated very lively. The soundtrack is very catchy and matches the game’s vibe exactly, although for me the BGM, voice, and sound effects of the default sound mixing were a little off—reducing the BGM helped a lot. The voice work was pretty good overall and it did help to bring the characters to life.

Content & Replayability – 8/10
The game is a 65-hour journey approximately with its great variety of dungeons, puzzles, and boss fights, I really did like it. The game is a strong designer of multiple playthroughs, especially if the player is after higher scores or wants to unlock all the achievements. It is really enjoyable replaying some dungeons to gain higher rank and experience rather than being bored with it because the game smoothness and variety keep it interesting.

Overall Experience & Recommendations – 8/10
In case you are a fan of the action RPGs having a bit of grind, clever mechanics, and a lighthearted story, Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection will be a good choice for you. It has a weird way of getting experience, looks good, and has hard fights that make it special. It’s not perfect – the camera doesn't move, and you can't skip some scenes, which can be annoying – but those are small problems.

Final Score: 7.8/10
I would tell anyone who likes funny, action RPGs with strategy who don’t mind repeating levels and likes stories about characters with jokes to buy this game.
