Rebel Galaxy

Space cowboy combat and trading!

Rebel Galaxy Review

Overall Score: 7/10

My love of trading games in space brought me to Rebel Galaxy where the good old feel of nice spaceships combined with combat, trading, and space was promised. The game is quite good and delivers a great experience , however, it has some major flaws as well:

Gameplay (7/10):
Trading, mining, and bounty hunting, although old, are still fun core activities. The battles are the main attraction—delightful simultaneous fire and moving ships' turning get space battles very interesting. Still, the fighting soon becomes monotonous as the majority of the confrontations are reduced to hit-damage on very strong opponents. The end of the game makes your ship very strong and thus eliminates the challenge.

Story (4/10):
The story and the characters are extremely flat—a mix of space fictions, dull speeches, and no actual character. Just don’t think about storytelling that is very much involved; it is more the gameplay loop which attracts than the narrative depth sidelined.

Sound & Atmosphere (8/10):
Blues rock score is the life of the game—wonderful and very appropriate music that really creates the atmosphere. The noises from the ship and the voice acting can be considered as not bad, thus contributing to the general impression of space cowboys, although the characters are not very well defined.

Graphics & Design (6/10):
Spaceship models are nice and even more so during the simultaneous fire fights. The game is mainly in a flattened zone, which may seem restricting but is perfect for the fighting style.

Replayability & Length (6/10):
The game has a fair share of playtime, but soon boredom might occur especially because the main story is quite easy and short. Nevertheless, open-world play and ship modification still provide a sense of keeping things going.

Final Thoughts:
Rebel Galaxy is very enjoyable, a very stylish space romp, and it is exactly what lovers of the genre who like fighting and famous spaceships want. Its narrative and depth may be shallow, but at the same time, its atmosphere and combat feeling are good enough to cover it. If you are a space trader looking for a game with a nice atmosphere and uncomplicated play, then look no further!
