The Coma: Recut

Escape the Haunted School

My Review of The Coma: Recut

Just recently, I finished playing "The Coma: Recut," and I must say, it was an experience that I found rather interesting. A psychological horror game set in a high school-setting really managed to maintain an air of tension and eeriness throughout my gameplay, always keeping me on edge.

Story & Atmosphere (8/10):
Much of the dramatic intensity in this novel is attributed to the story involving a student named Youngho. He gets stuck in a school building with a killer on the loose during the late hours of the night. I appreciated the dark and creepy atmosphere full of a narrative focus on themes such as bullying, mental health, and paranoia. While this story kept my attention well, some of its plot points did feel like they had that little sense of predictability.

Gameplay & Mechanics (6/10):
Stealth, exploration, and puzzle-solving form the backbone of the gameplay, which I found challenging on quite a few occasions. The controls feel a little bit clunky during sneaking or hiding and prompted some frustrating moments. I, however, quite enjoyed the game's save system and item management.

Graphics & Art Style (7/10):
The pixel art is gritty and efficient in bringing out the horror atmosphere. Animations are smooth enough, and the level design is oppressive and threatening to convey the sense of a school being haunted. While not the most detailed texture, these suit the game well.

Sound & Music (7/10):
The sound design is pretty good: creepy ambient noises, shocking loud sounds appearing out of nowhere, and a haunting soundtrack all work to build tension. The audio cues kept me on my toes, looking out for danger, though I feel the inclusion of a wider variety of sound effects would really take this to another level.

Replayability (6/10):
The game is studded with multiple endings and that some choices do matter, thus encouraging replayability; however, I found that some paths did end up feeling similar, and some players might be deterred from fully exploring due to the difficulty.

Overall Experience:
"The Coma: Recut" is a fine horror game that provides a tense and atmospheric experience with some rough edges in the gameplay. It is more suited for those who enjoy psychological horror and stealth games; those who would prefer polished mechanics and fast-paced action would find it less appealing.

Final Score: 7/10 🚪🔪🎮

If you're into creepy school settings and enjoy a good challenge, give it a shot! Just be prepared for some frustrating moments along the way.
