โ๏ธ Introduction
Even though I've played through every level and done all the bonus objectives in Hitman GO: Definitive Edition, it still managed to surprise me. It doesn't try to copy the stealth gameplay from the main Hitman games. Instead, it turns Agent 47's missions into neat, chess-style puzzles on well-designed little boards.
It seems really easy when you first look at it, but as I got further into the game, each level required more careful planning, patience, and getting everything just right. Every single move counts, and one wrong step can mess up an assassination that was otherwise going perfectly. It's one of the most clever spin-off games the Hitman series has ever had.
๐น๏ธ Gameplay โ 9.3/10
The game is played on a grid, moving one turn at a time. Everything โ enemies, obstacles, and items โ follows set patterns. This makes each mission feel like a puzzle to solve, not a fast-paced action scene. You don't need quick reflexes; instead, you need to watch where enemies patrol, guess what they'll do, and figure out the safest way to get to your target.
As you go through the campaign, new gameplay elements are added all the time. You'll encounter different kinds of enemies, see new disguises, use sniper rifles, find secret paths, deal with pressure plates and moving platforms, and of course, use Agent 47's famous Silverballers. These additions make things more complex, but they're introduced smoothly so they don't feel overwhelming. Each new part of the game feels fresh because of this.
What really stood out to me was how well it keeps the feel of the original Hitman games. Even though you can't move freely, you're still pushed to stay hidden, move enemies around, and find clever ways to assassinate your target. There are also optional goals, like completing a mission without killing anyone except the target or picking up briefcases, which add an extra challenge for players who want to do everything.
Some of the puzzles get very tough later on. Sometimes, you might just have to try different things until the solution becomes clear. The good news is that you can restart immediately, so trying things out isn't frustrating, itโs just part of figuring it out.
๐จ Visuals & Art Style โ 9.5/10
The presentation looks amazing. Each stage is like a handmade diorama, with tiny buildings, detailed backgrounds, and characters that move very precisely, almost like figurines.
Even though the design is simple, the game has a lot of visual character. Every level feels like a collectible item displayed in a glass case. The camera work, lighting, and clean interface all come together to create a polished look that still holds up.
The simplicity really helps the game. It keeps you focused on the puzzle without any distractions, and the detailed miniature environments still manage to capture the feel of old Hitman spots.
๐ Sound & Music โ 8.5/10
The game's music is mostly quiet, so you can focus on the puzzles without feeling stressed. The background music just adds to the mood without getting annoying.
The sound effects are really clear and feel good. Every step, gunshot, door opening, and successful kill has clear audio. Little things like enemy alerts or their movements help make the game feel like a board game and keep the stealth mood going.
Even though the music isn't something you'd hum later, it fits the game's calm, step-by-step pace really well.
๐ Story & Atmosphere โ 7.8/10
The game doesn't focus much on story, unlike the usual Hitman titles. Each mission is like a separate job to take someone out. The settings and scenarios are based on places and situations Agent 47 has been in before.
Even though there's not much story, it still feels like a Hitman game. Guards walk in expected patterns, you can use disguises to get around, finding hidden paths is helpful, and taking out targets always feels smooth and professional.
Some players might be let down by the lack of talking or cutscenes if they're expecting a typical Hitman story. But for a game that's mostly about solving puzzles, this simpler approach actually works really well.
๐ Bugs & Technical Performance โ 9.6/10
The game ran perfectly for me. Loading was super fast, the controls felt great the whole time, and I didn't run into any crashes or game-stopping problems.
The only small thing was that sometimes the camera angle made it a bit tricky to see the whole board right away. But just spinning the camera around fixed that easily.
Considering it's a puzzle game where you need to be precise, it runs really smoothly.
๐ Replayability โ 8.8/10
Itโs surprisingly fun to play through again.
You don't just finish a mission and you're done. There are extra things to do that let you solve problems in different ways. You could try to take out every enemy, go through without being seen at all, find secret items, or finish levels using the fewest possible steps.
It feels good to go back and try to get a better score or complete all the challenges because the puzzles are still interesting even when you know how to solve them. People who like to finish everything will probably spend a lot of time trying to get every objective.
๐ Final Verdict โ 9/10
Hitman GO: Definitive Edition shows you don't need realistic stealth to make a real Hitman game. It turns Agent 47's world into a cool board game, making it one of the most clever and creative spinoffs the series has seen.
The game looks great, the puzzles are well-designed, and the strategy is fun. It's easy to recommend, not just to Hitman fans, but to anyone who likes smart puzzle games. It's true that there's no story and it doesn't have the usual stealth, which might not be for everyone, but the quality of the levels makes up for it.
If you want a puzzle game that's simple to start but challenging to get really good at, you should definitely play this.
