SteamWorld Heist

Did you like Scrapland? Well this game is about a world of robots too.
Thugs thugging. Peasant suffer.

Steam World Heist. This one is a turn based tactic rpg. For some reason I had it in ignored section of store. But when I played it I changed my opinion. It’s part of SteamWorld franchise and I do have first two games that I haven’t played yet. I must have confused it with some other game I don’t like. Oh well more games for me enjoy.

That's our girl

Anyway the plot. We play as Piper the steambot who is a bit of rogue and earns her living by doing whatever is there to do. Including illegal stuff such as smuggling and occasional “pirating” of nearby cargo ships. So she’s not very likable and wanted by law in several galaxies I assume. But overall she’s small fly there are bigger problems in this sector such as Royal Robot Army who are quite tyrannical. There is also a new threat which is new gang of robots called “Scrappers”. They are quickly gaining numbers and for our bumfeckwhere in the sticks it means it will soon attract attention of Royal Robot Army. Did I mention shortage of water for steambots? There is also extra tension between RRA and regular folk because RRA consists of diesel fueled robot that don’t need water as much as steambots. So it is a big pile of trouble and Piper decides to kill two birds with one stone. She’ll do it by removing both Scrappers and RRA which would increase her reputation with regular folk and fill her pocket with riches.

gameplay

Gameplay. We travel around map with mission system. After we finish a mission another branch appear that will lead us to another mission and we go like that till we finish a sector, after that we moving to another sector. Each mission is a “ship” dungeon that is randomly generated. We have a goal and sometimes a side goal. After we complete it an exit will appear and we need to reach in order to finish the whole thing. Goals are usually simple things like collect all the booty sacks, or defeat all enemies, or destroy ship’s generator. And just like in any normal tactic we have movement that we can cross and still being able to shoot or we can double movement by sacrificing ability to shoot for that turn. It’s worse for sniper guns that are only able to shoot if you haven’t move at all on your turn. I used it for a while but then switched for regular revolver wither with a laser sight or one who can shoot more than one time a turn. Our bots are also can have active and passive abilities. Some are acquired by leveling up and other can be equipped via trinket slot.

Mission complete screen

Let’s switch for item/equipment section. Your fighter comes with 4 slots. One slot for a gun, two slots for trinkets and another slot for a hat. If we don’t equip a gun on our soldier he/she will use a default class gun. As for trinkets they are different, they can be passive or active. All of the items we get from either a loot bag, epic loot crate or form a shop. If a loot bag have different that white glow then you got an item instead of currency. And for shops, they are mostly useless because you can repeat mission and get more loot bag. But not epic loot crates, those are once per mission and on repeat they will appear as glowing blue “already taken” color. You are also limited with how many items you can have. But you can increase your storage by finding/buying an upgrade for it. There are also items that don’t do anything but you can sell them for a lot since those are artifacts of the past. Lastly there are also hats. Hats are purely for fashion. How do you get new one? There are two ways. First way is to shoot one from the head of an enemy. Second is to buy it from a shop.

Dollar trilogy reference

There are several classes. So far I’ve seen foot soldier, sniper and grenadier. So I haven’t figured out everything with the classes yet. They seem to limit the type of weapon one can use. But also some of abilities are the same for a different class. How do you get a new crewmate? Visit a bar/saloon location you can find potential fighters there. Some will join because plot says so, other will ask for payment and proper reputation. I also saved one of my fighters from a wrecked ship, but I don’t know if it was a onetime thing.

Loot screen

Anyway great game, addictive gameplay, hats collecting, bullets ricochet everywhere. Definitely play it I recommend it. Love it a lot. OST is good too.

Good enough and a pleasure to my eyes.

Well so far no bopping bangers. But it fits the game and doesn't distract you.

Best part of this game.
